Tutorials

Adobe Acrobat Professional Version 8.0.0 is used in these tutorials. See example 8 for a demonstration of working internal/external links.

 How to create internal links

Open the PDF in acrobat and navigate to page where you want the internal links.

Image 1. In top menu choose 'Tools/Advanced Editing/Show Advanced Editing Toolbar'.

Image 2. On the 'Advanced Editing Toolbar' choose 'Link tool'.

Image 3. Select some text or an object or draw a rectangle around the area you want to act as link. After releasing the mouse button a popup window, 'Create Link', appears. Choose there 'Go to a page view'. Set the 'Link Appearance' options as you like. Click 'Next'.

Image 4. A new popup window, 'Create Go to View', appears. You can adjust the rectangle that act as target view. When you're done click 'Set Link'.

Image 5. Next right click in the rectangle and choose 'Properties...'.

Image 6. On the new popup window, 'Link Properties', click the tab 'Actions'. Select 'Go to a page in this document' and click 'Edit'.

Image 7. On the new popup window, 'Go to a page in this document', select 'Use Page Number' and fill in the number of the page you want to go to when the link is clicked. Press 'OK' twice to make the popup windows disappear and your link is created.

Repeat this for all the links you like to create. Of course you can always edit your links.

Tip: To save time and create the same size links you can copy/paste them. In edit mode right click on a link and choose 'Copy'. Then right click again on a link and choose 'Paste', then you can drag the link to his place and edit (Image 5-7).

 How to create external links

There is more than one way to create them.

Image 10. The easy automatic way. Choose from the top menu 'Advanced/Document Processing/Create Links from URLs...'.

Image 11. On the popup 'Create Web Links' choose the pages you like Acrobat to check if it can find URLs on it and make links of them. Click 'OK'.

You might wish to edit or create external links manual.

Manual creation is practical the same as creating internal links. On image 3 choose 'Open a webpage'. Click 'Next'.

Image 12. In the popup window 'Edit URL' fill in a URL (e.g. http://www.site.com) or an email address (e.g. mailto:mail@mail.com). Click 'OK'.
